Quinton Washington

Quinton “Q” Washington didn’t discover emergency medical services in a classroom. He discovered it from the back of an ambulance.

Growing up in one of South Florida’s toughest neighborhoods, Quinton survived a drive-by shooting as a teenager. As he fought for his life, he witnessed firsthand the professionalism, skill and compassion of the paramedics who refused to give up on him. They treated him on scene, flew him to a trauma center and gave him a second chance at life. That experience became the turning point that shaped his future.

Determined to pay that gift forward, Quinton began his career in emergency medical services as an EMT in 2003. After overcoming personal setbacks that delayed his path, he achieved his goal of becoming a paramedic in 2007. EMS became more than a career—it became the purpose that helped him leave behind the life he was born into and dedicate himself to serving others.

In 2017, after losing his home in a devastating fire, Quinton relocated his family to Northeast Florida and joined Century Ambulance. Today, he serves as a Station Captain and Critical Care Paramedic on the TraumaOne Critical Care Ground Transport Team, an advanced partnership between Century Ambulance, UF Health and TraumaOne that provides specialized transport for critically ill and injured patients across North Florida.

Throughout his career, Quinton has cared for countless patients during some of the worst moments of their lives. One of the most demanding calls of his career involved transporting two critically burned patients following a house fire while working alongside his partner to keep both patients alive during the transfer to the regional burn center. Reflecting on the call, he said, “I have never worked so hard, so fast and for so long to keep someone alive.”

In 2026, Quinton added “author” to his list of roles with the release of The Weight of the Helmet: A Story of Brotherhood, Resilience, and Letting Go. Drawing from years of experience as a first responder, the book shines a light on the unseen burdens carried by firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, nurses, law enforcement officers and other first responders. Through storytelling and lived experience, Quinton continues his mission of serving others—not only in the back of an ambulance, but by encouraging healing, resilience and hope long after the emergency ends.

Quinton’s journey is a testament to the power of second chances, resilience and service. Having once been the patient whose life depended on the people in the ambulance, he now dedicates his life to being that person for someone else—whether responding to a critical call, mentoring fellow first responders or sharing the lessons of his own journey.
